LIVERPOOL

Reina: 7.0 – Had a couple of shaky moments but made some great saves particularly on Drogba and Lampard.

Arbeloa: 6.5 – Provided good width and a wicked cross set up Torres for the opener. However, like his team provided little attacking impetus after the break. 

Carragher: 7.0 – A super goal-line clearance in the first half looked to have saved his side but it served to merely delay the inevitable. 

Skrtel: 6.0 - Not a commanding display and found Drogba a tough opponent. 

Aurelio: 6.5 - The left-back has impressed in recent weeks but couldn't maintain his recent form.  

Kuyt: 6.0 – Involved in the build-up to the first goal but that was the high point of his evening and he rarely troubled Ashley Cole. 

Lucas: 4.0 – A display that merely highlighted how badly Javier Mascherano was missed. 

Alonso: 6.0 – Was guilty of allowing Ivanovic to escape his attentions for the opener and generally a below par display. 

Riera: 5.0 – A disappointed showing, would have been expecting to give Ivanovic a tough evening but he was rarely involved and got little change out of the full-back. 

Gerrard: 5.0 – Had a quiet night and when Liverpool needed their inspirational skipper he was nowhere to be found. 

Torres: 7.0 – Scored the opener with a lovely finish but had few sights after that.

Substitutes:

Benayoun: 6.0 – Was the match-winner on the weekend but not tonight. 

Dossena: 5.0 -  Has scored against Real Madrid and Manchester United as a substitute but made little impact tonight.

CHELSEA

Cech: 7.5 – Came and claimed pretty much everything and looked supremely confident all night. 

Ivanovic: 9.0 - Replaced Bosingwa and an invaluable contribution, scoring twice with fierce headers whilst looking strong defensively. 

Terry: 7.0 – Might have expected a tougher night against Torres but other than a few moments had no real scares. Picked up a booking that will rule him out of the second leg.

Alex: 7.5 – Played well alongside Terry and ensured that sights of goal for Liverpool became rarer as the match progressed. 

Cole: 7.0 – Had a good night, kept Kuyt quiet and linked well with Malouda to provide real threat down the left. 

Essien: 8.5  – Kept Gerrard incredibly quiet, ensured the Liverpool skipper could not have his usual influence. An extremely impressive display.

Lampard: 7.5 – As always neat and tidy in midfield and kept Chelsea ticking over. 

Ballack: 8.0 – Has been inconsistent this season but this was a fine show summed up by a sumptuous ball that set Malouda free to tee up the third. 

Malouda: 7.5 – Another player who has toiled for Chelsea but one of his best showings in a blue shirt and a terrific cross in for Drogba to make it 3-1. 

Kalou: 7.0 - Carried a threat and was difficult to knock off the ball. 

Drogba: 7.5 - Missed two glorious chances to score but made amends by putting the icing on the cake with the third goal.
